چکیده

We examine the distribution of stellar masses of galaxies in MS 1054.4-0321 and CL 0152.7-1357, two X-ray-selected clusters of galaxies at z = 0.83. Our stellar mass estimates, from spectral energy distribution fitting, reproduce the dynamical masses as measured from velocity dispersions and halflight radii with a scatter of 0.2 dex in the mass for early-type galaxies. When we restrict our sample of members to high stellar masses, those over> 10 M⊙ (M ⋆ in the Schechter mass function for cluster galaxies), we find that the fraction of early-type galaxies is 79% ±6% at z = 0.83 and 87% ±6% at z = 0.023 for the Coma Cluster, consistent with no evolution. Previous work with luminosityselected samples has found that the early-type fraction in rich clusters declines from ≃80% at z = 0 to ≃60% at z = 0.8. The observed evolution in the early-type fraction from luminosity-selected samples must predominantly occur among sub-M⋆ galaxies. As M⋆ for field and group galaxies, especially late-types, is below M⋆ for cluster galaxies, infall could explain most of the recent growth in the early-type fraction. Future surveys could determine the morphological distributions of lower mass systems which would confirm or refute this explanation. The most important climatic factors affecting distribution of Zygophyllum atriplicoides in semi-arid region of Iran (Case Study: Isfahan Province)

Zygophyllum atriplicoides is one of the important species of Iran rangelands that has special importance owing to some properties like high distribution rate, coverage percentage, density, and plant biomass that make it possible to supply a part of forage needed by livestock during spring and winter as well as to avoid soil degradation against water and wind erosions. This research tries to stu...

Tracing the formation of massive spheroids from high-z galaxy clustering

The high-z progenitors of local massive early-type galaxies should be characterized by a strong level of clustering, larger than that measured for z = 3 Lyman Break Galaxies and comparable to that of z ∼ 1 EROs. First possible evidences for such strongly clustered objects at z > ∼ 2 were found by the FIRES and K20 surveys, that have identified new classes of faint high-z K-selected galaxies. So...

Time Evolution of Galaxy Formation and Bias in Cosmological Simulations

The clustering of galaxies relative to the underlying mass distribution declines with cosmic time for three reasons. First, nonlinear peaks become less rare events as the density field evolves. Second, the densest regions stop forming new galaxies because their gas becomes too hot to cool and collapse. Third, after galaxies form, they are subject to the same gravitational forces as the dark mat...

Optically - selected clusters at 0 . 8 . z . 1 . 3 in the EIS Cluster Survey

This paper presents preliminary results of a spectroscopic survey being conducted at the VLT of fields with optically-selected cluster candidates identified in the EIS I-band survey. Here we report our findings for three candidates selected for having estimated redshifts in the range z = 0.8−1.1. New multi-band optical/infrared data were used to assign photometric redshifts to galaxies in the c...
